The Commission for Coordination and Regional Development of Lisbon and Tagus Valley will launch in early 2009 an open, supported by EU funds for projects for the construction or rehabilitation of public facilities in critical areas.
According to Lusa said the chairman of that entity (CCDR-LVT), Antonio Fonseca Ferreira, the initiative starts in January or February, after only five of the 18 counties of the metropolitan area of Lisbon have applied to a first contest, which ended in April, and the only two have won.
"It is sad and strange that has not tapped. Now the funding is lower, down from 60 to 70 percent for 40 to 50, and obliges local authorities to contribute more, but the biggest problem is the municipalities are not technically prepared for the competitions, 'said the controller.
The projects' Zambujal Improvement '(Calcutta) and "West Almada - Regeneration for a new plant" will be the first to benefit from the funds of the competition "policy of Cities - Partnerships for Urban Regeneration", benefiting from the support of 1.4 and 3 , 5 million, respectively, of the European Regional Development Fund
