The system for recycling the urine and turn it into drinking water in the International Space Station (ISS) presented problems and tests that are needed to be done about it suspended, reported today to NASA, the agency American space.
"The problem was a defect in the mechanism of the centrifuge distillation apparatus," said the charge of communications for NASA's ISS commander, Michael Finke, and the flight engineer, Sandra Magnus.
The recycling system was brought in charge of the ship "Endeavor" and will be part of the new advanced equipment that will count the occupants of the complex from next year.
The equipment, installed in the module "Destiny", is part of what NASA described the system of recovery of water, through which process if the urine, sweat of astronauts and wash water with which to transform it into drinking water.
"The system is in the process of initial tests and the astronauts are ready to continue them," said NASA in the release.
"The tests will resume when the control of the mission find it convenient," he added.
In addition to the system to recycle the urine, the "Endeavor" led to the ISS a refrigerator, two water heaters, a bathroom and exercise machines.
