It starts today at 3 of the flag IDF, in Lisbon, what the Living Science Center calls the "festival of science." The Living Science Forum 2008 and lasts until tomorrow marks the beginning of the Week of Science and Technology.
The event "is intended as a meeting point for researchers and teachers as well as maintaining contact between the scientific community itself and the people," says the executive editor of Living Science. Ana Noronha believes that the forums help to achieve a major objective of the Science Alive: "Bringing scientific culture to all."
In the space can be seen several stands of laboratories, research centers, schools, universities, museums and other institutions involved in science. The pavilion is divided into thematic areas, where stem the activities of the program that includes discussions, demonstrations and workshops. Another of the novelties this year is that for the first time the forum is broadcast live on the Internet by Science Alive TV.
Alongside the forum, the Living Science Center is also preparing other initiatives. At the European level will be awarded three projects: the programs Alpha Galileo, Pollen and Volvox. They all want to give a European dimension to the Living Science, as well as closer relations with scientific groups of other EU countries. Also the Living Science in the summer is already being prepared and will cover various areas such as astronomy, geology, biology and engineering.
The literary level will also be news, since the Living Science Center will launch the program Read Science. The writer Isabel remit is to present a new initiative Read, this time devoted to science. In Reading Science, young people are invited to read books of scientific information, then make a presentation that can captivate colleagues.
These forums, which according Ana Noronha want to show "what is best in science in Portugal, already last in 1997 and since then has fostered a taste for science and technology. Several young people, from several points of the country, found in a Science Live support, or a simple motivation to follow the scientific track. The agency is continually growing and the country will alastrando But Ana Noronha ensures that the priority "is to increase the activities at the poles already in place for that science arrives at all."
